Synopsis

The true story of pianist Władysław Szpilman's experiences in Warsaw during the Nazi occupation. What sort of mood would you be in for The Pianist? That often decides the evening more than a rating does.

caoimhereads_118 · 20 Oct 2026, 14:08 UTC

Cian, that is what I like about a shortlist. It makes me stop endlessly browsing and actually choose.

aislingflynn · 20 Oct 2026, 05:08 UTC

The Pianist is one I am weighing up. Could someone add a spoiler-free note about the opening? That is usually what helps me choose.

aoife_obrien · 20 Oct 2026, 19:08 UTC

Aisling, that is a good way of choosing. I tend to match the pick to the evening as well.

For anyone considering The Pianist: Keeping this on the list for a quieter evening rather than trying to squeeze it in.
