Synopsis

Imprisoned in the 1940s for the double murder of his wife and her lover, upstanding banker Andy Dufresne begins a new life at the Shawshank prison, where he puts his accounting skills to work for an amoral warden. During his long stretch in prison, Dufresne comes to be admired by the other inmates -- including an older prisoner named Red -- for his integrity and unquenchable sense of hope.

The synopsis for The Shawshank Redemption has my attention. Is it best to go in knowing very little?

ronan_flynn · 30 Oct 2026, 17:08 UTC

Roisin, fair point. There is room for something a bit different in the next six.

The Shawshank Redemption is one I am weighing up. Would love to hear a different take too. The interesting picks are often the ones people split on.

Eimear, a film-club style conversation afterwards could be good, even when people disagree.

For anyone considering The Shawshank Redemption: The description has me curious. I would rather know the mood than the whole plot.
